A wise man once said, “all good things must come to an end”. Unfortunately, that statement is perfectly suited for the hit anime show One Piece.

Known as one of the best and longest running anime series, many rumors have begun to circulate regarding the show’s inevitable completion. Social platforms like Instagram and twitter have been teaming with allegations that the Strawhats’ adventures will be reaching their conclusion in the near future, some reporting as close as next year! Although there may be some truth to this, based on the facts it is up to you all to decide. Here is what we know.

Oda’s Interview

A photo of Eiichiro Oda

Eiichiro Oda, the genius behind One Piece, was interviewed for the manga’s 25th anniversary back in 2022. In this interview he states that his goal is for the manga to end in 3 years.

That is all!

Based on this interview, many have taken this as a precise timeline rather than an estimated one. However, it is important to note that the creator has been fairly accurate in his predictions when it comes to the timing of his show. Yes, his dates tend to be a few years apart from his original statements, but not by far. For example, according to Meristation News,

“…he said that Wano would start in 2017 and ended up starting until 2019.”

and

“In 2002, Oda talked about 20 years (until 2022). In 2014 he estimated that One Piece would last 10 more years (until 2024).

The Library of Ohara goes into further detail with a full list of Oda’s predictions regarding the show. The table is below, and if you look, most of them are accurate or not far off from the original statement. Bear in mind there are some spoilers so scroll with caution!

Oda’s Tweet

What we know for certain is that the beloved manga is in its final arc. In July of 2022, Oda published a tweet stating,

“When I was a kid, I had this thought, ‘I wish I could draw a manga series in which the ending is the most exciting part! I wonder if I’ll be up to it!!! ” Now, we’re almost done with the Wano Country arc, and all the preparation work is ready. It took me 25 years to reach this point, hahaha. But it’s still fine if you start reading from here…from now on, this will be ONE PIECE! “I will draw all the mysteries left in this world that I have been hiding until now. It’s going to be really interesting.”

As far as the facts, that is the majority of what we know. One Piece is in its final run and although it has been a favorite for over 20 years, it more than likely will be concluded before the end of the decade.

Oda and Make a Wish

Aside from interviews there is a rumored conversation Oda had with a fan surrounding the ending of One-Piece. However, since this was not recorded nor was it an official interview, it is only a rumor at best.

Back in 2014, Japan’s Make a Wish foundation partnered with Oda to make a young man’s dream come true. Hinati Fujinami had been battling lung cancer and wanted to know the ending of One Piece. According to Muddasir Kamran with MSN news,

Overcome with bittersweet emotion afterward, Hinati described the ending as โ€œbeautifulโ€ though he sorrowfully acknowledged his deteriorating health would prevent him from reading its full published version.

Suspiciously, this interview is believed to be false by many fans. Especially since the name Hinati, does not follow average Japanese phonetics. However, regardless of its integrity, there is barely a doubt in anyone’s mind that the ending of One Piece has the high possibility of becoming one of the greatest conclusions to an anime of all time!
