Road Trip!

As my blog name suggests, I love the road. Specifically long distance driving. There is something therapeutic about relaxing in my car while listening to a nice audiobook as I cruise down the highway. So i was excited when I woke up knowing I would get to drive 4+ hours to Virginia for thanksgiving. Let’s do a quick recap!

The Fit

I can’t drive longer than an hour without wearing either: A hoodie, a sweatshirt, sweatpants, or a skirt. These are the only two acceptable forms of rode attire and I will not be arguing. I forgot to take a picture, but I chose to wear my new nurse sweatshirt, some old brown sweats, and my trusty New Balances.

To add to the ensemble, was my new neck pillow. After buying it on a whim I concluded that I can no longer drive without one. I’m glad I didn’t wear a blanket because, with the assistance of the neck pillow, I would have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Honey

Unlike her mama, my baby girl is terrified of cars. However, she had to come with me, so I had to make it work. I set her up in the back seat with a cute seat sling. After filling it with some of her favorite toys I left her to relax. She loved it (for the most part) and was able to ride in peace. Of course, she still started to shake when we stopped but that’s still better than her basically having a panic attack in my passenger seat floor.

Audiobooks

As I took in the new sights, I got the chance to just talk with God (honey loves to eavesdrop of course). The audiobooks I chose for the road were The Awe of God, and Captivating: Unveiling The Mystery of A Woman’s Soul.

I wish I could recount how amazing The Awe of God was, but I only listened to the introduction before switching to Captivating. It was wonderful to listen to in the beginning, but I wanted to truly focus on The Awe of God (something I couldn’t do while I was driving). Plus, I had already made a dent in Captivating and wanted to finish the chapter I was on.

Let me talk more this gem. If you are a woman, I highly recommend this book. Like most ladies I often struggle with understanding the many wounds inflicted on my heart as a woman. This book opened my eyes to who I am as woman from a biblical view.

I was able to have such an amazing discussion with God while listening to this. Wounds that I ignored for years were finally addressed and started to approach a level of healing. I’m still doing internal work based on the information I learned in Chapter 6. Once again, I highly recommend!

Heading Back

The ride back was more lively as I was accompanied by my sisters. I drove half way and my second sister drove the other half. Although, I like long distance driving, it was still appreciated since I started to feel really tired towards the 3rd hour.

The best part about riding with my sisters is our music. They are one of the few people where I can listen to any genre and not be judged. As we each put in our song requests, we were able to drive home in true Clark sister karaoke style!

What I Would Do Next Time

After sitting for 4+ hours the need for a seat cushion began to become more apparent. Not to mention, the added seat height wouldn’t be too bad either.

Next time, I’ll be sure to pack some lighter and healthier snacks. . I thought it would be fun to pig out on junk food, but the combination of an early start and a consistent sedentary position made me feel like garbage. All of that sugar just made me want to fall asleep in a heavy, too-much-dessert, kind of way.

Overall the drive up was very enjoyable!

Until next time,
