Get ready to create the life of your dreams in this fantastical journaling prompt! In this activity we are going to do an interactive dream building plan in order to create a picture of your ideal life. As an avid day dreamer, I do this often, and sometimes I have to release the picture I have in my head onto my paper. This will give you a way to express your innermost desires while creating a goal for you to strive towards. As you’re writing, don’t think of your answers as a fantasy, but as a purpose that you were meant to fulfill.
Instructions
Each entry will start with a question I want you to think about. Then I will provide a summary of my own answer for inspiration. Lastly, you will answer the prompt questions at the end of each section in your journal. Feel free to use sites such as Pinterest and Instagram for more visual ideas. By the end of this exercise, you will have a clear picture of your dream life that you can steadily begin working towards.
So, grab a cup of tea, cuddle under your coziest blanket, dim the lights, and let’s dream!
Where do you live?

My Sweet Country Oasis
In my ideal life, I will have my permanent residence in the lush countryside of Vermont. My home will either be a new England or Victorian styled farmhouse, preferably with a wraparound porch sitting on no less than 2 acres. The exterior would either be a dusty light blue, a cotton candy pink, or an elegant cream color with pastel window shutters. During my off time I would sit on my porch and crochet whilst listening to my wind chimes and the ambient sounds of nature.

As an avid animal lover, I would have a mini animal farm containing a few cows, a donkey, several hens, and a rooster. I play with the idea of intentionally adding some animals for the sake of having a animal rich property, such as rabbits and geese. Somewhere along the outskirts of my property, I hope to have a small pond to be the home to a few fish and maybe a turtle or two.
Most importantly, there would be a large she-shed a short walk away from the main house that would function as my creative studio. This will be the home of all my paintings, writings, crafts, and bible centered meditation. It would take on the other color that I chose not to paint the house and it would have no less than 2 windows, preferably towards the front, with a sill for me to place my fake flowers (I’m terrified of pollinators). Regardless of if I have a family or not, this place would be my space to unleash my artistic heart and return to my roots.

Journal Prompt Questions
- What country do you live in?
- Are you in a city, suburb, or rural area?
- What is the climate? Is it mainly chilly or warm?
- What does the terrain look like? Are you in the mountains or on a beach?
- What kind of house do you have? A Lake house? A bungalow? What about a cottage?
Your Turn!
Answer the questions and get creative. Don’t be afraid to add more than the questions may allow.
What’s your occupation?
Full Time Creative
In the simplest term, I would be a full time creative. I want multiple jobs that allow me to live a life of unbridled creativity.

I would be the proud owner of a creative studio club in the midst of downtown Vermont. Think of it as a club for artists of varying mediums being able to come to one place to grow, create, and learn with each other. In this studio, there are classes taught by me or by other artists throughout the week. Classes range from acrylic painting to ceramics and crocheting. It will be similar to a multipurpose building for artists to write, read, draw, paint, and more. My end goal would be to have a small coffee shop adjoined to the business for my artists to go and obtain refreshment while they fall into their various projects.
One of my biggest dreams was to be a children’s book author. Considering I hope to have written and published at least one children’s book by the time I open my studio, I would probably be working on my 2nd installment. I have always loved the concept of one lone human amongst a completely different race, like the last human amongst anthropomorphic animals. Maybe that’s what I would be working on.
Of course, my first passion would continue to be a staple in my career. Blogging is one of my favorite creative outlets and I don’t see myself ever letting it go. In fact, in my dreams, I am collaborating with other Christian creatives through my blog in order to provide more rounded and exciting content.
Journal Prompt Questions
- What career field are you in? Are you in STEM or the Arts?
- Do you work alone or with others?
- Do you only have one job or multiple?
- Do you work for yourself or are you an employee?
- What are your work hours like?
Your Turn!
This can be a tricky one because we tend to answer career questions out of fear. Do not think about income, family approval, or how realistic your dream job is. Think about what you want to be and not what you may feel you have to be.
What are you wearing?
Color. Color. Color!

As I matured into my personal style, I found that I am most myself when I am wearing bold and bright colors. Although I could be wrong, as I currently see my future, I want to have a colorfully endowed closet with plenty of matching accessories. Purses lined against the wall arranged in an array of various hues and values. Plus, I’ll have shoes of equal variety, both in color and type, lined against the wall. I would have an outfit combo for every occasion and color swatch.
By this time, I would be a master at color blocking and pattern design. My wardrobe value percentage would be 70% second hand/ thrift clothes, 20% boutique/online items, and 10% Luxury/High End.

My jewelry collection would be grand enough to have the right accessory for every outfit. However, as far as makeup goes, I would probably be using the same cosmetics I use now. I’ve never been big on that side of the beauty industry but I appreciate it all the same.
Journal Prompts
- What is your color scheme?
- Will you have a lot of clothes or rotate the same favorites?
- What is your value percentage? Do you want a lot of luxury?
- What would be your fashion category? Casual, Goth, Cottage core, Professional, etc.?
Your Turn!
Your ideal fashion statement is often a reflection of your personality. Don’t think about money or your current environment. Furthermore, don’t focus too hard on your aesthetic. Sometimes our ideal aesthetic can bind us to a certain set of fashion rules that may not be our own unique style. Let your mind run free with your answers!
Down the Rabbit Hole
This is the fun part! Now that you have a general picture of your future, I want you to expound on the smaller details. Here are some questions to get you started!
- Are you married? What would your spouse look like?
- Who do you want to be in your life? Would you live close to your family?
- What are some accomplishments you to have achieved?
- Do you have any kids? What would their names be? How many?
- Are you a pet person? If so, what kind of pets would you own?
Remember, this is more of a guideline than a set of steps. Be loose with your imagination!
Writing out your dreams like this is one of the most relaxing activities for daydreamers like me. However, my hope is that you not only write down the dream but aim for it to become your reality. As you write, think of what you can do right now to transition this journal prompt to a life goal. I believe in you!

[โฆ] Iโm aware itโs a bit whimsical, but Iโve never been one to shy from turning fantasy into reality. I am also aware that I must get over my fear of bugs. At least enough to not jump out [โฆ]
